To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what steps he has taken to monitor the effect on social security recipients of mortgage protection insurance policies. [39698]

We continue to monitor the quality, availability and cost of mortgage protection insurance and welcome the developments so far. We are also monitoring the scheme to ensure that an appropriate balance is maintained between public and private provision.
