To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many United Kingdom-registered fishing vessels have fished in Norwegian territorial waters in the past three years; and what estimate he has made of the number of fishing vessels from other member states of the European Union fishing those grounds. [38940]

Mr. Baldry

The numbers of UK vessels that have fished in the Norwegian exclusive economic zone are:

  • 284 in 1992
  • 271 in 1993, and
  • 248 in 1994.

We are seeking from the European Commission equivalent figures for other member states.
