To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans she has to ensure that in vitro fertilisation treatment is provided on the NHS by the Cornwall health authority. [26161]

It is the responsibility of each individual health authority to determine its provision of infertility treatment in the light of local needs and the availability of resources. The hon. Member may wish to contact Dr. Stanley Dennison, chairman of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly health authority for details.

Local health authorities are responsible for the provision of local health services, including the provision of infertility services. Decisions about the resources to be made available for these services must be left to individual health authorities as they are in the best position to determine priorities in the light of local needs and circumstances.
