§ Mrs. WiseTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many people are recorded as having been unemployed for more than six months; and what proportion this is of the total number recorded as unemployed. [22318]
§ Mr. OppenheimIn April 1995 there were 1,361,160 claimants who had been unemployed for six months or more. This represents 57.3 per cent. of the total number of claimant unemployed. In autumn 1994, according to the labour force survey, there were 1,499,000 people who had been unemployed for six months or more on the internationally standard ILO definition. This represents 59.6 per cent. of the corresponding ILO total. Both figures are on the unadjusted basis.
