HC Deb 23 May 1995 vol 260 c558W
Mr. Jon Owen Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how far back computerised records of national insurance contributions extend. [25040]

Mr. Arbuthnot

The administration of national insurance is the responsibility of Mrs. Faith Boardman, the chief executive of the Contributions Agency. She will write to the hon. Member.

Letter from Mrs. Faith Boardman to Mr. Jon Owen Jones, dated 19 May 1995: As Chief Executive of the Contributions Agency, I have responsibility for answering questions about operational matters relating to the National Insurance scheme, I have been asked to reply to your question about how far back computerised records of National Insurance contributions extend. A cumulative total is held on each contributor's computer account of all National Insurance contributions from April 1948 to March 1975. From April 1975, detailed annual records of all National Insurance contributions are held on each contributor's account. I hope you will find this reply helpful. If I can be of any further assistance, please let me know.
