Dr. Howells

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many United Kingdom police officers are currently serving(a) full-time and (b) part-time with the National Criminal Intelligence Service. [25053]

Mr. Maclean

[holding answer 22 May 1995]: As at 1 May there were 248 police officers serving with the National Criminal Intelligence Service, all full-time. Of these, 229 were seconded on central service terms and 19 were on periods of attachment.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the cost in 1993–94 and 1995 of the National Criminal Intelligence Service. [25054]

[holding answer 22 May 1995]: In 1993–94 the net outturn for the National Criminal Intelligence Service was £20.068 million. The outturn in 1994–95, which has yet to be confirmed, is estimated to be £23.508 million.
