HC Deb 22 May 1995 vol 260 c497W
Mr. McMaster

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department which newspapers, magazines and periodicals will be used in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland during the period before the next general election to advertise postal and proxy voting; what assessment he has made of the coverage that these have across all parliamentary constituencies in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement. [24069]

Mr. Howard

In England and Wales, advertising giving details of absent voting procedure will be booked in all national daily and Sunday newspapers and in some ethnic minority language newspapers. A television advertisement will be transmitted in England and Wales, two days in advance of the press advertising to alert the public to the press campaign. Electoral registration officers in England and Wales will be provided with artwork for use in local advertising that they might wish to book.

The Central Office of Information estimates that the national newspaper advertising will be seen by 75 per cent. of the adult population throughout England and Wales.

Advertising in Scotland and Northern Ireland is arranged by the Scottish Office and the Northern Ireland Office.
