Letter from Derek Lewis to Dr. Lynne Jones, dated 18 May 1995: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the number of female prisoners currently sharing two and three to a cell. At the end of April there were 54 female prisoners in England and Wales sharing two to a cell designed for one. There were no female prisoners sharing three to a cell designed for one.
