To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what were the total legal costs of defending the Government's tariff scheme for criminal injuries compensation in the courts up to and including the House of Lords. [23617]

The full costs are unlikely to be known for some time. The accounts settled to date have amounted to some £42,000.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many(a) police officers, (b) firefighters, (c) nurses and (d) shopworkers in each parliamentary constituency were awarded compensation for criminal injuries under the tariff scheme; and in each category how many were (i) women and (ii) received less money under the tariff scheme than they would have done under the old scheme.
