To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of school leavers has attained no academic qualifications in each year since 1979. [23387]

The proportion of school leavers who have attained no academic qualifications has dropped from 28 per sent. in 1981–82 to 9 per cent. in 1993–94. The table below covers the period from 1981–94. Information prior to 1981–82 is not available on a comparable basis. The percentages listed do not include school leavers with English GCSEs or A-levels, nor do they include pupils who have attained SCOTVEC modules while at school.
