HC Deb 11 May 1995 vol 259 cc553-4W
Mr. Parry

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the time it takes to process applications for a British passport; and if he will make a statement. [23658]

Mr. Nicholas Baker

[holding answer 10 May 1995]: On Wednesday 26 April the turnround times for processing properly completed, straightforward applications were:

  • Belfast 6 days
  • Glasgow 7 days
  • Liverpool 7 days
  • London 2 days
  • Newport 6 days
  • Peterborough 5 days

All the Passport Agency's key targets for 1994–95 were met. This resulted in a reduction in the overall average turnround time from just under eight days to just under seven days.
