Mr. Hinchliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for Health who represents general practitioner fundholders on area child protection committees. [22849]

Mr. Bowis

The exact composition of an area child protection committee is a matter to be agreed locally. Government guidance, contained in "Working Together Under the Children Act 1989: A Guide to Arrangements for Inter-Agency Co-operation for the Protection of Children from Abuse", is that general practitioners should be represented by the general practitioner representative(s) of the local medical committee(s). Copies of the guidance are available in the Library.
