HC Deb 04 May 1995 vol 259 cc264-5W
Mr. Peter Griffiths

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many civil servants of executive grade were in post in 1980, 1990 and 1995. [22539]

Mr. Horam

Information for the years from 1980 to 1994 can be found in table 4 of "Civil Service Statistics", copies of which are in the Library. Information for 1995 is not yet available.

Mr. Milburn

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will list the individual value of each(a) compulsory early retirement and (b) flexible early retirement package received by civil servants leaving his Department on grounds of limited efficiency in each of the last five years. [22091]

Mr. David Hunt

I am also answering on behalf of the Prime Minister.

Four elements usually make up the package received by those leaving on limited efficiency grounds—compulsory early retirement. The first three are the payments which would be made under the principal civil service pension scheme. The fourth element is set out in the civil service management code. The four elements are as follows:

Annual compensation payments to age 60 £ pa Superannuation lump sum £ Lump sum compensation payment £ Compensation in lieu or notice (if any) £
1990–91
Compulsory 7,000.19 18,025.17 11,901.54 11,974.00
1991–92
Compulsory 14,007.71 36,190.06 18,481.91 17,860.00
1992–93
Compulsory 11,737.00 33,480.60 11,737.00 0
Flexible 12,217.00 33,477.73 0 0
1993–94
Compulsory 8,541.59 25,140.95 4,103.33 0
1994–95
There have been no instances of compulsory early retirement or flexible early retirement on limited efficiency grounds in the central Department, HMSO, COI or the executive agencies in the financial year 1994–95.
