To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people sought asylum in the United Kingdom in the last year for which figures are available; and, of these, how many(a) already had an immigration status within the United Kingdom, (b) applied for asylum within three months of their arrival in the United Kingdom, (c) applied for asylum within three months of the expiry of their leave to remain in the United Kingdom, (d) were refused asylum and (e) were given exceptional leave to remain.
