§ Mr. GummerEstimates of uncollected community charge and council tax for each local authority are published regularly by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy; figures for 31 March 1994 are available in its revenue collection statistics 1993–94 publication, a copy of which is in the Library of the House.
The outstanding arrears of council tax in England as at 31 March 1994 were estimated to be £580 million, of which £226 million had been collected by December 1994. The outstanding arrears of community charge in England as at 31 March 1994 were estimated to be £1,700 million, of which £217 million had been collected by December 1994. No data are yet available centrally on the sums of either council tax or community charge written off between April and December 1994.
