Mr. Hoyle

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the certified normal accommodation level, population and percentage overcrowding for each local prison for the latest date available; and how many assaults on(a) staff and (b) prisoners have occurred in each prison since 1st April 1994.

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Derek Lewis to Mr. Doug Hoyle, dated 16 March 1995: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the certified normal accommodation, population and percentage overcrowding for each local prison for the latest date available; and how many assaults on (a) staff and (b) prisoners have occurred in each prison since 1st April 1994. The information requested is given in the attached tables, copies of which have been placed in the House of Commons Library.
