HC Deb 13 March 1995 vol 256 c423W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment he has made of the implications for the protection of the environment which will result from the agreement reached between British Nuclear Fuels plc and Scottish Nuclear, for the long-term management and reprocessing of spent thermal oxide nuclear fuels at Sellafield.

Mr. Atkins

[holding answer 7 March 1995]: Any contract entered into by British Nuclear Fuels is a matter for that company, but any operations at Sellafield which result from such a contract will have to comply with the limits and conditions of the site discharge authorisations. Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution is satisfied that compliance with these authorisations will fully protect the environment.
