To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many accidents have occurred in coal mines(a) in each month of 1994 and (b) since the beginning of 1995; and how many of them in each period have resulted in serious injury or death.

The information is not yet available for the whole period.

However, information is available for the period January to March 1994 and is shown in the following table.

Figures for the year April 1994 to March 1995 have not been validated and will not be confirmed until the Health and Safety Commission's annual report is published in November 1995.

The statistics will be available by month from that date.
