§ Mr. MallonTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what steps he will take to repeal all of the provisions of the Act for the Better Observation of the Lord's Day, commonly called Sunday, AD 1695. [31288]
§ Mr. Moss[holding answer 29 June 1995]: The Government have no plans at present to repeal all the provisions of the Sunday Observance Act (Ireland) 1695. Ministers are at present considering the responses received to consultation papers published earlier this year on Sunday racing, betting and sport and Sunday trading. If it is decided to relax the current legislative restrictions on these matters, some action to amend, repeal in part or disapply the 1695 Act may be necessary.
