§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonIn Scotland students are generally presented for the Scottish certificate of education at higher level rather than for A-levels. Data on students at further education colleges is not held in a form that would identify those students studying A-level science subjects. The uptake of A-level science subjects in Scottish education authority secondary schools is collected biennially in the September school census. Similar data are not collected for independent schools. The uptake shown in the census is as follows:
