asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many deaths from pollution-related heart and lung diseases:

  1. (a) of men; and
  2. (b) of women,

under the age of 50 occurred in the five largest metropolitan areas outside London in the most recent year for which figures are available and what is the national average figure; and

How many pollution-related deaths of people aged 50 or over occurred in the five largest metropolitan areas outside London in the most recent year for which figures are available and what is the national average figure.

It is not possible to identify whether individual cases of death are attributable in part to the effects of pollution.
