In 1993–94 local authorities incurred no expenditure on, and received no income from, placements in unregistered independent residential care and nursing homes. The expenditure not covered by direct income is supported from sources not hypothecated to specific sources, primarily revenue support grant, non-domestic rates and council tax income.
