HC Deb 22 June 1995 vol 262 c409W
Mrs. Beckett

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the case of Dr. Yin Yin Teoh of the Belfast Victoria hospital [30255]

Mr. Moss

Dr. Yin Yin Teoh, a pre-registration house officer in the royal group of hospitals HSS trust was responsible for the accidental administration of an injection into the wrong drip line which resulted in the death of a patient, Mr. Samuel Beers. As a result, Dr. Teoh was charged with manslaughter but was found not guilty at her trial on 15 May 1995.

A thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding the incident was carried out by the trust and the recommendations flowing from this investigation have been implemented.

During the period of the investigation and trial, Dr. Teoh was transferred to non-clinical duties. She has since been successful in obtaining an appointment as a senior house officer and has resumed clinical duties at the royal group of hospitals trust.
