HC Deb 19 June 1995 vol 262 c13W
Mr. Tipping

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what estimate he has of the number of dogs destroyed under the provisions of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. [27855]

Mr. Nicholas Baker

[holding answer 12 June 1995]: During 1992 and 1993, a total of 630 people were convicted either of offences under section 1 of the Act, or of aggravated offences under section 3. In each of these cases, the court would have had no option but to order the destruction of the dog concerned. This figure is therefore likely to be close to the actual number of dogs put down under the Act in that period.

Figures for 1994 are likely to be available in the autumn.
