To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what plans he has to prescribe chronic bronchitis and emphysema in respect of industries other than the coal industry. [27622]

Mr. Hague

We have no such plans. The Secretary of State is advised on the prescription of diseases under the industrial injuries scheme by the independent Industrial Injuries Advisory Council. The council has recommended prescription of chronic bronchitis and emphysema only in respect of underground coal mining.
