To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what provision he is making for the additional costs being incurred by Strathclyde regional council and Strathclyde passenger transport executive as a result of the restructuring of the railways. [29148]

A special grant report has been laid before the House today for the payment of grant in 1995–96 to Strathclyde regional council. The purpose of the grant is to provide support to SRC for the additional costs falling to be met by it in the financial year 1995–96 for the railway passenger services provided by British Rail to Strathclyde passenger transport executive arising from the restructuring of railways in Great Britain in accordance with the Railways Act 1993.
