HC Deb 14 June 1995 vol 261 c539W
Mr. Hall

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what measures his Department is taking to encourage more disabled people to pursue careers in engineering-based and technology-based industries. [26816]

Miss Widdecombe

The careers service provides advice and guidance for young people on careers in all sectors of the economy including engineering and technology-based industries. People with disabilities have access to careers service advice until they are settled in their career intention.

The Department also has a wide range of services and employment and training programmes, which are accessed through the Employment Service, to assist disabled people to obtain and retain employment and to pursue their chosen career. This includes careers in engineering and technology-based industries.

The Government have also introduced a Disability Discrimination Bill which will make it unlawful for an employer to treat a disabled person less favourably because of his or her disability, without justifiable reason.
