§ Mr. Martyn JonesTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the percentage of people aged 10 to 18 years with permanent teeth which are actively decayed, filled or missing due to decay. [271991]
§ Mr. MaloneThe table shows the percentage of children in England aged from 10 to 15 years with permanent teeth which are actively decayed, filled or missing due to decay. Figures for 10 to 18-year-olds are not available. The age group covered by the adult dental health survey is 16 to 24. The results of the 1993 child dental health survey, however, shows substantial improvements, since previous studies in 1983 and 1973, in the number of children who are caries free. For further explanation, I refer the hon. Member to the following Office of Population Censuses and Surveys publications—"Adult Dental Survey", 1988, and "Children's Dental Health in the United Kingdom", 1993. These publications are available in the Library.
