§ Mr. McNamara
To ask the Secretary of State for Education if the Government's proposals to privatise the administration of the teachers pension fund will require secondary legislation.
§ Mr. Robin Squire
Before a contractor could administer the teachers superannuation scheme, secondary legislation would be needed to delegate functions of administration to the contractor.
We have made it clear that we shall let a contractor only if it would provide better value for money than keeping the administration of the teachers superannuation scheme in the public sector.
