To ask the Attorney General what maternity and paternity entitlements are available to employees within his Department. [27285]

The Attorney-General

Entitlements are available in accordance with the civil service management code. They provide forReasonable paid time off for ante-natal care. A maximum of 52 weeks paid and unpaid maternity leave for permanent staff¹ with one year's service who state an intention to return to work. Of this, three months and one week² will be paid leave. Staff may also apply for an unpaid career break of up to 5 years. Other staff, regardless of employment status, are entitled to 14 weeks' unpaid maternity leave and to return to work. Staff³ are entitled to two days' paid paternity leave.

¹ Excluding casual staff and those on fixed-term appointments of less than two years.
