HC Deb 06 June 1995 vol 261 c117W
Mr. Austin-Walker

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if the statement on page 71, paragraph 6.22 in the Government's White Paper, "Competitiveness—Forging Ahead", in respect of the state not funding improvements in the living standards of individuals in old age represents a change in Government policy; and if he will make a statement. [26902]

Mr. Arbuthnot

Our policy on pensions remains unchanged. We will maintain the value of the basic state pension by increasing it in line with prices, encourage personal responsibility for additional pension provision through occupational and personal pensions and target extra resources on those with a low income.
