To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how much the People's Republic of China received from the overseas aid budget during financial year 1994–95; and if he will list the major projects funded. [36239]

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) if he will list those Chinese provinces which(a) do not have systems of birth permits, birth quotas and birth targets and (b) do not have legislation limiting the right freely to found a family and decide the numbers and spacing of any children. (2) what steps he has taken to fulfil the recommendation of the Foreign Affairs Committee to seek further information on population control in China; [36107]

(3) what specific discussions wee held by the delegation led by Lord Howe on the subject of coercive population control during its visit to China in December 1992; [35980]

(4) if he will make a statement on the role of the Chinese Family Planning Association in promoting the one child policy; [36103]

(5) if he will make a statement on the humane population policies that have been adopted by the Chinese Government as a result of United Nations Population Fund assistance with China's censuses in (a)1980 and (b) 1990; [35985]

(6) if his Department classifies the one child policy in China as a coercive population policy; and if he will make a statement; [36101]

(7) what information he has on the number of female contraceptive acceptors in China (a) in total and (b) expressed as a percentage of the number of potential child hearing women; [35982]

(8) what account he takes of the (a) absence or presence of child safety insurance, (b) housing, (c) employment provision and (d) nursery and elementary education provision for Chinese families with more than one child in allocating funding from his Department; [36100]

(9) what account he takes of the methods used to ensure compliance with China's one child policy in allocating ODA funding; and if he will make a statement on the methods; [36092]

(12) if he will make a statement on the humane population policies that the UNFPA advocated to the Chinese Government in connection with China's censuses of (a) 1980 and (b) 1990; [35986]

(13) in what respects China's one child policy breaches the UN guaranteed human right freely to found a family and decide the number and spacing of children; [36102]

(14) if the issue of coercive population control was raised with the Chinese Vice Premier and Foreign Minister at the meeting in New York on 18 April; and if he will make a statement; [35984]

(15) what account he takes of the number of Chinese regional laws that specify obligatory contraception and their origins in a national draft law in allocating ODA funding; [36090]

(16) if he will make a statement on the incident reported on page 14 of "People and Development Challenges" of 3 May, a copy of which he has received in respect of coercive population control regulations against families in Feixian county, Shandong province; and what assessment he has made of the reliability of (a) the Chinese Family Planning Association and (b) the International Planned Parenthood Federation statements on coercive population control.
