HC Deb 19 July 1995 vol 263 c1327W
Mr. Key

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what traffic calming measures will be installed on the A36(T) at South Newton; when this will occur, and if he will make a statement. [35822]

Mr. Watts

When I visited South Newton on 25 November, at my hon. Friend's invitation, I announced that we planned to install experimental electronic speed limit warning signs on the A36 at either end of the South Newton village. Traffic counting loops for monitoring traffic speeds have recently been installed in the carriageway. The Highways Agency is currently monitoring and recording vehicle speeds through the village so that the effectiveness of the signs in reducing speed can be properly assessed. The project is on line for completion in the autumn.
