HC Deb 18 July 1995 vol 263 c1118W
Mr. Worthington

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what assessment he has made of specific changes to which legislation is necessary to bring levels of remission on prison sentences in Northern Ireland into line with practice in England and Wales; and what plans he has for such changes. [35374]

Sir John Wheeler

To bring the law on release of prisoners in Northern Ireland in line with England and Wales would require provisions equivalent to those in part II of the Criminal Justice Act 1991, together with the creation of a parole board for Northern Ireland. The Government have no plans to make these changes at this time.
