To ask the Secretary of State for Defence which Minister in his Department had responsibility for the Ministry of Defence police on 27 January 1993.

[holding answer 27 June 1995]: The Ministry of Defence police is an independent police force with full constabulary powers operating under the Ministry of Defence Police Act 1987. The responsibility of the Secretary of State is limited to his general superintendence of MDP under the Act and through the mechanisms of the MOD police committee, delegated to the Minister of State for the Armed Forces, who on 27 January 1993 was my right hon. Friend the Member for Epsom and Ewell (Sir A. Hamilton).
