Mr. Spearing

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what regular monitoring his Department requires by hospitals, trusts or health district of the occasions when, prior to cancellation of an operation, a patient(a) arrives at hospital but is not admitted to a bed, (b) is admitted but undergoes no preparation and is not prohibited from food and drink and (c) is prepared for an operation or is prohibited from taking food and drink. None. Trust are required to monitor the number of occasions operations are cancelled on the day the patient is due to come into hospital or after the patient has been admitted and the occasions when a new date is not given within one months of the cancellation.
