To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what additional funding will be provided for the training of special educational needs co-ordinators to ensure they fulfil their widely extended role in identifying and assessing special educational needs. [34506]

Mr. Forth

The grants for education, support and training programme in 1995–96 includes support for £10.5 million to help schools develop their policies on special educational needs, SEN. Eligible expenditure under this programme includes the cost of providing training or professional advice to SEN co-ordinators in schools.
