§ Mrs. Ewing
To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his latest estimate of the number of specialist cardiologists in post in the NHS in Scotland; and if he will list the numbers for each of the previous five years.
§ Lord James Douglas-Hamilton
[holding answer 12 July 1995]: There are 25 consultants—23.3 whole-time equivalents—in cardiology in Scotland at 30 September 1994. The figures for the previous five years were:
Year WTE 1989 15.7 1990 17.9 1991 18.9 1992 19.9 1993 22.5
The figures do not take account of general physicians who have a special interest in cardiology.
