To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what discussions she has had with her EU counterparts on terms and conditions of employment. [31801]

In discussions with her EC counterparts, my hon. Friend, the Member for Maidstone (Miss Widdecombe) consistently argued that attempts to regulate terms and conditions of employment at EU level are unnecessary and likely to lead to more unemployment across Europe.

I and my colleagues intend to continue to advance the benefits of the United Kingdom's policies.
