Mr. Simpson

To ask the President of the Board of Trade how much has been spent on outside advertising agencies for each year since 1979; and if he will list the specific advertising campaigns undertaken by his Department, their purpose and their cost. [32479]

The Department of Trade and Industry works with the Central Office of Information, which manages media advertising on behalf of central Government.

Expenditure since 1979 could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. However, total advertising expenditure by the Department through the COI for the past five years is:

  • 1991–92: £798,527
  • 1992–93: £1,120,539
  • 1993–94: £606,338
  • 1994–95: £501,146
