To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what recent discussions he has had with his French colleagues on testing of nuclear weapons. [30584]

My right hon. and learned Friend has discussed nuclear testing with the French Defence Minister, most recently at their meeting on 27 June.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what recent discussions he has had with his French counterpart concerning the negotiation of a comprehensive nuclear test ban treaty. [30577]

Mr. Freeman

The negotiation of a comprehensive nuclear test-ban treaty was one of the wide range of defence matters that my right hon. and learned Friend discussed with Mr. Millon when they met last week.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what plans he has for further scientific collaboration with the United States of America on nuclear warhead testing. [32414]

Mr. Freeman

We plan to continue to cooperate closely with the US over a wide range of nuclear technical matters, including alternatives to nuclear weapon testing, which will be necessary under a comprehensive test ban treaty.
