HC Deb 04 July 1995 vol 263 cc116-7W
Mr. Robathan

To ask the Chairman of the Accommodation and Works Committee what is his policy on the use of combined heat and power in the House of Commons.

Mr. Ray Powell

Wherever appropriate, the opportunity is always taken to incorporate energy efficiency measures into new works and maintenance projects on the parliamentary estate. A combined heat and power plant will be installed in the Norman Shaw buildings later this year at a cost of some £90,000. Projected annual savings worth £18,500 will give a payback period of less than five years. Studies are under way with a view to undertaking a similar scheme in the Palace of Westminster in 1997–98.
