HC Deb 25 January 1995 vol 253 c214W
Mr. Colvin

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what financial assistance is available from Her Majesty's Government or the European Commission for the grubbing out of(a) orchards and (b) vineyards.

Mr. Jack

Financial assistance is available for applicants who grub at least one hectare of culinary or dessert orchards. To qualify apple trees must be less than 20 years old, healthy, capable of bearing a full crop of fruit and planted at a density of more than 400 to the hectare. Grant rates are 5000 ecu—approximately £4,600—per hectare for total grubbing and 3500 ecu—approximately £3,200—per hectare for partial grubbing. The scheme closes on 31 January 1995.

There is no scheme of financial assistance for the grubbing out of United Kingdoms vineyards.
