HC Deb 10 January 1995 vol 252 c60W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what plans the European Union has to suggest to the Vietnamese Government that the delegation from the UN working group on arbitrary detention be allowed to return to the A20 re-education camp at Xuan Phoc, Phu Yen province, so that they may interview all prisoners who were unavailable on 28 October; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Baldry

I am not aware of any such plans. Neither the UN working group on arbitrary detention nor the presidency of the European Union has raised this matter with Her Majesty's Government.

Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the co-operation received from the Vietnamese Government by the delegation from the United Nations working group on arbitrary detention when they visited the A20 re-education camp, at Xuan Phoc, Phu Yen province, Vietnam, on 28 October 1994.

Mr. Baldry

The United Nations working group on arbitrary detention has not yet reported on its visit to Vietnam.
