To ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the ratio of junior doctors, defined as house officer, senior house officer, registrar and senior registrar to consultant posts in each year since 1991.

The ratio of junior doctors to consultants in England at 30 September each year is as follows:

  • 1991: 1.53:1
  • 1992: 1.52:1
  • 1993: 1.53:1
