asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which Salmon Fishery Acts are currently in force in Scotland with regard to net and coble fishing, and whether they have published any guidelines for the practical operation of this method of netting.

The Statutory provisions that relate to use of net and coble in salmon fishing in Scotland are as follows:

Primary Legislation:

Section 2 of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries (Protection) (Scotland) Act 1951 (c.26), as amended by Section 21 of the Salmon Act 1986 (c.62)

Subordinate Legislation:

The Salmon (Definition of Methods of Net Fishing and Construction of Nets) (Scotland) (Regulations 1992, SI 1992/1974 (S.201), as amended by

  1. (i) The Salmon (Definition of Methods of Net Fishing and Construction of Nets) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1993, SI 1993/24 (S.20)
  2. WA 45
  3. (ii) The Salmon (Definition of Methods of Net Fishing and Construction of Nets) (Scotland) Amendment Regulation 1994, SI 1993/111 (S.4)

In 1994 the Scottish Office Agriculture and Fisheries Department issued a Note for Guidance on Regulation 8A (thickness of twines for salmon fishing nets).
