Voluntary Unemployment Deduction

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many people received a voluntary unemployment deduction, grouped by the reason for the deduction, on the latest date for which figures are available. [7188]

Based on a 5 per cent. sample taken in February 1995, 33,000 people¹ were receiving income support with a voluntary unemployment deduction.² The precise reason for the deduction in these cases is not known. However information as to the numbers and types of adjudication officer decisions taken in relation to voluntary unemployment is routinely kept and produced as the analysis of adjudication officers' decisions, copies of which are available in the Library.
