To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many homes there are in Northern Ireland; how many have no mains electricity supply; how many existing homes were connected to the mains electricity in each of the past five years; and what plans there are to connect mains electricity to the remaining homes which have no electricity.

The information requested is as follows:The 1991 census recorded a total of 530,000 households in Northern Ireland.Figures from the 1994–95 continuous household survey suggest that 99.7 per cent. of households in Northern Ireland are connected to an electricity supply.The information requested on the number of existing homes connected to the mains electricity in each of the last five years is not available;NIE has a duty under the Electricity (Northern Ireland) Order 1992 to give supply on request and a right to recover any expenses reasonably incurred in providing supply.
