To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) what is the average length of time taken to process an appeal against the disallowance of a disability living allowance applications; [2687]

(2) how many appeals have been lodged following the disallowance of a disability living allowance application since 1 April 1994; and, of these appeals, how many have been upheld. [2688]

The information is not available in the format requested. However, the average clearance time for appeals considered by disability appeal tribunals, which include disability living allowance appeals, is 30 weeks.

Between 1 April 1994 and 31 October 1995, 41,800 disability living allowance appeals have been decided and, of these, 26,662 cases the appeal was upheld.
