§ Mr. SpearingTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what arrangements were made for distribution of the transcript of the proceedings of the resumed inquest into the deaths of some of the passengers drowned in the Marchioness disaster, during its sittings between 13 March to 7 April; and if he will make arrangements for a transcript of the proceedings to be made available to those legally represented at the inquest, and a copy to be placed in the Library, and be available for public inspection at a convenient location in central London. [19776]
§ Mr. Nicholas Baker[holding answer 18 April 1995]: This is entirely a matter for the coroner who conducted the resumed inquest. Coroner's actions are governed by the Coroners Act 1988 and the Coroners Rules 1984 which require the coroner only to take notes of the evidence at the inquest and which contain no requirement to provide a transcript of the proceedings to any person.
